the portal "Whohub." HELL IN THE TOWER
Just over a week, I received an invitation from the portal Whohub to respond to an interview about my activities as an architect and blogger. The interesting thing interviews is to make you think they are like a test that can go unstudied. Then, the results of this interview:
ARCHITECTURE What is your major in architecture?
Architectural design and architectural supervision
Any website or blog where we can do something about your job?
Very little. I think I have only a few works of mine on my blog.
What is it a good architectural design?
A good piece of architecture is, in my opinion-a space created not only by the manipulation of matter, but for the intervention of the metaphysics of architecture tools: light, shadow, space, gravity. Good management of these metaphysical tools to manage food and shelter space in the spirit of the users.
What historical era of architecture is the one you love?
the twentieth century, although much studying I offense European Gothic cathedrals and the most important works of the Roman Empire.
The name of a famous building that you do not like anything
All the buildings of Frank Gehry Guggenheim Bilbao post seem unnecessary repetition. Curiosities such as sculpture, fetish as unnecessarily complicated and architecture.
I also greatly dislike the Colosseum in Rome. Regardless of your majesty, I can not admire a construction whose ultimate function was to kill people.
What hardware, software as essential tools you use in your work?
paper, pencil, sketchup, auto CAD, 3D Studio, Photoshop.
What city do you live or work and why?
Both my work and my professional training were constantly fluctuating between Guayaquil and Quito, Ecuador's major cities. I do not think there is a specific reason for this situation. Simply, those were the cities where I had the opportunity to do my work. Roll on the other cities that want to introduce new professional challenges.
Do you work with other architects? How did the team?
Currently, I am reopening my independent architectural study, after three years of overseeing the construction of the largest bus terminal in Ecuador (75,000 m² building, 155,000 square feet of intervention). For now, work with a collaborator in this project. Much like to invite to participate in my architectural projects for my ex-students of the university. I draw much of their professional and academic curiosdiad, and I think the projects they are involved is the same.
What do you think of the contests? What kind of contests you usually present?
are stressful, exhausting, but I love. Whenever I can I inscirbo diene in international architectural competition.
How respects the identity of the environment while maintaining the signature of a building?
A building must submit new elements that "talk" with their neighbors. Without falling into the rough tactics of the imitation, the new building must be placed with such care in the existing urban environment, giving the impression of always being there, no matter how different they are its design and construction materials.
admire what architects, historical and contemporary? Historical
: Mies van der Rohe, Wright, Piranesi, Le Corusier, and Barragán. Contemporary
: Alberto Campo-Baeza, Oscar Niemeyer, Mathias Klotz, Herzog & de Meuron.
In your professional philosophy, which is before the function or form?
function is the one that generates a form, basically. But plastic also fills a need for expression of a community. There should be a balance between them. The architecture of today must be halfway to the sheds and mausoleums.
Do you see the urban landscape as an ecological threat and a waste of resources? Will you advocate a more dense and vertical urbanism? Indeed
. The urban landscape, this poor result of the "Garden Cities" is a completely unnecessary waste of resources. Guayaquil, the city where I live, has some 45,000 hectares, but has just three million inhabitants. Ie has a larger area of \u200b\u200bBuenos Aires or Barcelona, \u200b\u200bcounting only the third or fifth of its population. Infrastructure is expensive and few benefits, a model of urban development led and manipulated by traffickers infertile land on the perimeter of the hare been carefully.
How will a single family home in 2050?
Changes in the family home will not give timing issues, but urban conflicts across each city. There will be changes in family homes in Montana and Australia; but it could be Tokyo, Mumbai, Berlin, Amsterdam, London, Sao Paolo or Mexico City find condos where the kitchens and dining rooms to become communal areas.
What new materials will arouse more interest?
I called a lot of attention this transparent hormgón invented in Mexico.
In general, plastic concrete value is fascinating. I think we have not exploited to its full potential yet.
Bioclimatic architecture, home automation systems ... "Approaching a profound revolution in architecture?
The same was said of postmodernism of deconstruction, and high-tech. I believe that architecture continues, and as it always has, will in spite of these trends and stigmas.
In developing a project, do you feel closer to your customers, or the public who use it?
I think closer to the users is also a way to approach the customer. The client lost, if your investment is not entirely friendly to its inhabitants.
"The pharaohs built pyramids, and bankers skyscrapers, architecture will always be a symbol of power?
Architecture is a human expression, both individually and collectively. The banker is reflected in its skyscrapers, in the same way that the worker is reflected in the house purchased or built for his family.
Imagine an ideal home for you, where would be? What would it be?
By the sea. I wish I had the Pacific Ocean and the Antarctic Humboldt current table, all the windows of the house. You must also have a huge study, which, probably, I spend most of the time.
Can I copy to be original?
No. You can interpret the past. But the copy without interpretation will never be a path leading to the originality or recognition.
Where is the balance between architecture rooted and responding to their time?
The proportion and common needs of the site, those that do not vary with time. Architecture
show, are increasingly building media phenomena?
media appearance of the buildings is somewhat circumstantial. The reason for this demonstration mediatica of the architecture is that that produced the Roman Coliseum, the high European cathedrals, the Pyramid of the Sun in Teotihuacan and the Empire State: the manifestation of power.
What theme would you like to see written on the entrance of the school of architecture?
himself available Vitruvius motto, the motto has been more invariable in its history architecture: Firmiter, VTILITAS, VENVSTAS.
What would be your dream project at the moment?
I would love to design a museum or a library that will match what is the Guayaquil today. Do not abandon my dream of intervening not scale city \u200b\u200bby the river Guayas, to make integrated river city again.

Besides being an avenue of relief from all the frustrations that may have a modernist architect in the South American tropics, I have done much to find someone who shares my way of Pansa. That's a relief.
I lick a lot of attention to see how one's mind becomes more considerate in the middle through a blog. Originally, I read those were just my ex-students of the Faculty of Architecture. Now when I give a seminar and take references already published on my blog, I listen to that among the students whisper: "The teacher is 'bricks'! ".

How often do you post? Does it represent an effort to posterity with regularity?
feel like I'm in a good rhythm of posting when I can post 3 or 4 post per week. However, I am very consicente that this figure is very ambitious.
The regular publication muco depends on how much work you have. I had a couple long without blogging, as a result of my activities as an architect. These periods were up to 3 or 6 months.
Do you reported blog income? Can you live on this posting?

promoted it very little. Lately, I've created a Facebook group, and through him to inform interested when I posted something new.
How would you describe your readers? Do you have a loyal audience?
There's everything from the writing to ask you to write something again soon, to write you to insult qu. Every reader who has a tinge maniefiesta unique.
Any other blogs you follow on a daily or frequently?
I'm aware of "culture B", the blog of Juanfernando Andrade, who writes about film, music and literature. The English Federico García Barba has a good blog on urbanism, called "Islands and Territory." Stranger blogs as "The Other Child Tenderness", who was in a sour political events of Ecuador, or "Neapolis" by Jaime Izurieta, speaking of planning, architecture and society.
addition, frequently visited blogs of architecture "Life Without Buildings", "A Daily Dose of Architecture", "Archtectural Rumminations" or "schnitzel with potatoes" of Argentine architect and writer Gus Nielsen.

Actually, I have no idea! What I can predict is that I will lay some of my blog post to publish in a book that I am ready to end this year.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to start a blog?
The basic advice I dare to give it, if you're going to start a blog, write just about what you're passionate about. But do not try!
Blogs are something like the Tamagotchi. Without constant attention, they die, or, better said, are the dead.
A blog should be something to do with taste, but do not be born nor the inclination nor the dedication.
